The end

Hello everyone, it is sad but 20 time is coming to a close. I am glad to say that I have succeeded at my goal of writing a song. Yes, I'm happy and all with doing that, but what I am really happy about is how much I have improved in my guitar and drum playing. Now I am playing things that I thought would take me at least a year to get to. For instance, I did a cover of Slide by the Goo Goo Dolls which took some skill as well as some other songs like Name, Iris, and Semi-Charmed Life by Third Eye Blind.
One thing that really helped me get started with thus project was tearing my ACL in september. Thanks to that I had tons of free time after school everyday being a cripple so I could practice playing my instruments. The best thing that I ever did was arranging meetings every Wednesday after school with my old 4th grade teacher Mr. Frakes. He is an amazing guitar player and person in his own band with fellow teachers called Rosetta Pebble. I thought he was the perfect option for a guitar teacher and it turned out to be perfect. If I didn't see him then idk where I would be right now.
I have learned many musical things through this project but I know you guys don't care about them so I'll talk about the one most important thing I learned about myself. I have found what I'm passionate about. As of now I can tell you that 10 years from now I'll be in a band, I'll be able to play guitar, base, drums, and piano, and I'll be the happiest man alive. But right now I gotta get my TEDx talk over with to even hope of being that happy.

Finishing Touches

Hello viewers,  I have some good news today. I finished writing my song! All of the lyrics are complete (I could always change them later too) and all of the guitar parts are set. I am trying to add in some drums but it's not really fitting well. The only thing left to do is practice (mostly my singing). I plan to have a recording out soon.

Looking back at this project I am very happy with my accomplishments. I did what I wanted to do and in the process learned guitar, improved my drumming, and learned how to write a song. If I were to describe what I got most out of this project it would have to be learning the guitar. If I didn't do that then I wouldn't have a song at all, no question about it. The greatest thing about it though is the fact that thanks to this, I will continue to make music for probably the rest of my life. All is takes is a start somewhere.

In the upcoming weeks I will be reflecting more on my 20 time project and starting to write my TED talk. I am going to try out for the TEDx event being held at our school and will be talking about the importance and impact of music on our lives. Since this topic is something I'm passionate about I feel like it will be fun and a good experience. Well keep close for more information about my talk.

Nothing new

Hello viewers. I have no new news about my song this week besides that I am working on the lyrics now. These last few weeks I've been overloaded with homework and now that baseball has started I will have no time at all. It's a slow process right now but one open weekend every once in a while and I'll finish the song. Plus, I have been playing other songs on the guitar too. Mr. Frakes mentioned that he knows someone who has a home recording studio in the neighborhood so when I'm ready to record I can get a professional sound. Hopefully I can get something out soon!

New Guitar

Hi! Midwinter break is over and school is starting again ugh... It was a really boring break for me since I didn't go anywhere and all my friends were away. The only exciting thing was getting my wisdoms pulled. With all this free time I worked on my song and learned Name and some of Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls on guitar, and Stricken by Disturbed on drums. I believe I finally have a whole set verse, chorus, and bridge it's just a matter of putting them together now. The next step is writing lyrics which might be hard, but I think I have the right idea for the cadence. Anyway, last post I mentioned getting a new guitar with my birthday money. Well I used ALL of it and got one! Its a Mitchell Element Series ME1CE Dreadnought Cutaway Acoustic guitar if that means anything to anyone. I love it a lot and here's a picture. It came with a built in tuner and pickups so it can be plugged into an amp. I might even make a guitar cover of a song in the future so stay tuned.

A Song?

Hello everyone! This week I'm making progress and trying to fit together some melodies I came up with into a song. The one I came up with moves around the C-chord and all its variations. I'm trying to find out which other chords I can move to while keeping the same rhythm to make a verse part, since one chord is just too boring. This song is actually an "assignment" by my guitar/song teacher but that doesn't mean I wouldn't have done it anyway. I have to come up with an outline for a whole song by Wednesday. For instance, verse1/chorus/verse2/chorus/(bridge)/(chorus/end). So stay tuned for a possible song next week! My birthday is next Monday and I'm hoping on getting some money to buy a decent acoustic guitar. I probably won't have enough so I might buy some new drum parts like a cowbell or a tambourine. The thing is I want to buy both but I have to choose one or the other so I went with guitar since I need that way more. I'll post a picture of whatever I got so keep posted to find out!

Almost There

Hi everyone. I haven't posted in awhile but that's not bad news since I've been busy working hard on my instruments. Plus last week was exams week, so that didn't help. I've shifted from playing drums every day to playing guitar all the time in order to get better at it as fast as possible. Since I'm just starting it's important to learn before I try to make stuff so that's what is happening right now. I like the finger-picking style due to all the extra sounds you can make with your right hand, and am focusing on becoming good at that as well as working on my finger dexterity with my left hand. Bar chords are still super hard I think it will take me longer to master those. I am still meeting with Mr. Frakes every Wednesday and he is helping me learn these skills. For drums, I am currently drumming in a band called Absent Conflict, and am also part of a garage band with one (possibly a couple) of my friends. It's really fun and I get a little better every time I play so it's like hitting two birds with one stone. It might be awhile before I can cover any songs on guitar. Right now I'm trying to learn Send Me On My Way by Rusted Root and Name by Goo Goo Dolls since they are good acoustic songs to help me practice my finger-picking skills. Otherwise keep checking for upcoming drum covers! See you guys later!

New Year, New Goals

Hey! It's been awhile since I've last blogged and I have some good and bad news for you all. Let's start with the bad news. I am stopping the song of the week posts since nobody is requesting anything or seem to be looking at them at all. I'll stick with the covers but maybe not as much as I said I would post earlier. I'm running out of time now that I'm back to working out every day after school, and with homework it's hard to find any free time. But that's enough bad news, now for the good. I was talking to my old 4th grade teacher Mr. Frakes about this project and asked him if he could work with me and he can! In fact, we had our first meeting today. He plays guitar and writes songs in a band with some fellow teachers called Rosetta Pebble, so I figured he would be perfect for helping me learn guitar. This week I'm practicing some basic chords and working on getting those calluses on my fingers, as well as finger-picking and coming up with some chord progressions. Also I have checked out some of my classmates blogs and came across Reanna Raymond's blog on writing poetry. Her poems are awesome you can check them out on this link When I was reading them, I suddenly realized that these could easily be song lyrics, so I asked her if I could possibly use one of her poems in a song and she said go for it. Maybe one of these days when I'm a bit better at guitar we could collaborate on a song, who knows? Well I've got a long road ahead of me with this project but with some hard work and dedication I'll be making my own guitar melodies in no time.
